2K Games has welcomed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to direct the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently working on the anticipated over-the-shoulder roguelike extraction-shooter known as Project Ethos.
Management Shift Comes After Poor Response
The new appointee assumes the role of studio head at 31st Union following the dismissal of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' underwhelming initial reveal last fall.
On Wednesday, 2K president a key figure updated employees about this strategic move through an official communication, which emphasized that playtesting had indicated the need for a more defined direction.
The president expressed that the team is now refining Project Ethos with a revised focus, aiming to better meet community desires.
A Pattern of Key Recruitment
This announcement echoes a similar move taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they brought on an industry veteran from the Diablo team to work on the beloved franchise development group.

The gamer responses from last autumn’s Project ETHOS playtest was revealing. It affirmed the appeal of a action-packed game but made clear we still had work to do. It highlighted the need for a clearer brand.
The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve progressed. You took the feedback to consideration and overhauled Project ETHOS with a refreshed goal - one that’s ready to achieve its potential to our audience.
The belief in this project increases every day. To advance the remarkable development you’ve made, I am thrilled to introduce the new hire as the new Lead of 31st Union. After several months of conversations, Ben officially joins us on next week.
His leadership and expertise in the PVP shooter field is extensive, having devoted the last 15 years creating and managing some of the most recognizable titles in gaming, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and lately, Apex Legends.

Brinkman currently holds the position of executive producer and production lead at Respawn Entertainment for their flagship title. He previously was employed at major gaming companies in diverse production roles on the iconic franchise series, and, earlier in his career, had assignments at 2K and Electronic Arts.

The upcoming game was announced in last year alongside a community playtest. Then, 31st Union portrayed the game as a "no-cost, third-person perspective action-packed experience and an innovative step forward on the style."
